Fit and Wear Instructions

Orthoses

Orthoses! Try them on

Choosing Your Size

Choose the size that corresponds to your shoe size. Depending on the shoe you may need to choose a smaller size to fit. Sizes available are as follows:

Toddlers
4 - 6

Men's & Youth
2 - 12
Childrens
7 - 10

Ladies
2 - 8
Juvenile
11 - 1

WORN FOOTWEAR:

The orthoses will often fit easier in worn footwear than in new footwear because they are already worn in, and have stretched to shape creating more room. It is preferable to try the orthoses in your existing footwear.

NEW FOOTWEAR:

When purchasing new footwear they will generally need to be a 1/2 size larger than normal, as the inserts will take approximately a 1/2 size of space. This may vary because of the wide variation in shoe fittings.

First Steps

The best way to test the comfort and relief of these Orthoses is to "try them on".

  • Choose the correct size (see above)
  • Slip them into your footwear
  • When you feel that the fitting is correct try them out

Just like you would with new shoes. Start walking to feel the difference. They may feel strange and different at first, but should not feel excessively uncomfortable. The main support should be under the middle of the arches, not too far forward or too far backward.

The construction, style and quality of your footwear will directly affect the feel and support of the orthoses.
For example:

  • Tight footwear: may cause some wearing difficulties
  • Wedge or flat soled footwear: may cause the support to feel too hard either under the arch or just forward of the arch, under the toe joints.

Trimming to Shape

If the orthoses are a little too long in your footwear:
  • measure the excess length
  • using scissors: trim 1/2 the excess off the back
  • then trim 1/2 the excess off the front.
  • See the diagram below
Trimming Guide

Footwear Tips

SPORTS FOOTWEAR

The orthoses are excellent to wear in sports footwear because they are flexible and compatible with the shock- absorbing and semi rigid sports footwear available. If your sports shoes have a removable sock insole, remove the sock insole first to allow room for the Ovidio Orthoses.

SANDALS OR OPEN TOE SHOES

Open toe shoes are quite suitable for Ovidlo Orthoses. The orthoses may require some trimming and adjustment at the front, mainly to prevent the orthoses from hanging too far forward. Sling back shoes are also suitable but the orthoses will need some adhesive under the heels to stop them from slipping forward and/or pulling out of the shoes.

UNISEX FOOTWEAR

Orthoses in the men's and youth's size ranges will suit the casual or more rugged shoes or boots often worn by men and women. These size ranges are better suited to the wider fittings of this type of footwear.

LADIES FOOTWEAR

Ovidio Orthoses are also styled and shaped for ladies shoes. These are more shapely and elegant looking and cover quite a range of styles including fashion shoes, boots, flatties, slippers, high or medium heels, etc.

Further Assistance

Those with a more serious foot related health condition may need to consider further professional treatment. As Medical Grade Footwear Practitioners we recommend practical treatment with custom made orthopaedic footwear and orthoses. Professional medical assistance may also be required from a podiatrist or general practitioner. Often practical and medical treatment administered together will bring more effective results.

IMPORTANT: If you cut the full excess from the front or back you may put the arch support in an incorrect position, making them uncomfortable.
