Heel Pain (spur)

Many people suffer from heel pain, some have it mild, some more severe.

This condition has various names such as spur or Plant fasciitis, but whatever name is used the problem is the same, reduced mobility because of heel pain.

Heel pain is caused by excessive pressure or too much weight on the heel, and is usually due to an absence of arch support in footwear. The short-term solution involves placing heel caps under the heels in an effort to relieve the direct pressure on the heel. In the long term, heel caps add to the problem as skin thickens under the heel increasing pressure on the painful area.

The long-term solution then is to introduce the previously lacking arch support into general footwear. Placing newspaper, foam or any other semi-ridged material under the arch briefly, will demonstrate to the sufferer how beneficial arch supports are.

For the treatment of heel pain

  • See your health expert.

  • Get some orthoses fitted to your feet and footwear.

  • Check your shoes for rough spots under heels.

  • Walking is the best exercise we can do, in supportive well fitted footwear

See the experts and put your best heel forward!
