Wearing light footwear

Come summer time we tend to move away from boots and shoes and head into thongs, sandals and other light footwear.  Every kind of footwear has its good use, it is when we overuse one type that we can cause problems.

For leisure and relaxation purposes, light footwear including slippers is ideal. If however we keep wearing them when doing our house work or continuously standing on flat hard surfaces it will affect our body as much as the person who works in a factory or in a garage selling petrol.

The softer the footwear is the less support it offers, especially when it’s easy to bend under the arches. This causes bad posture and puts the whole body out of alignment and off balance, resulting in many aches and pains from the feet up.

Here are some remedies:

  • Purchase Orthoses either professionally fitted or from a standard range

  • Make your own interim posture correction with chux cloth, tissue or foam. It may relieve your immediate problem.
