Multidisciplinary Care

You’ve heard the saying ‘Don’t keep all your eggs in the one basket’.

That’s a concept that can be applied in many areas and equally so in the area of foot care.

We each have individually shaped feet and hence individual needs for footwear.

Take the case of a 40-year-old man who in a car accident suffered ankle injuries, resulting in reduced mobility. This man needed a multidisciplinary approach to his care including initial orthopaedic and surgical intervention, follow up physiotherapy and equally as important, appropriate footwear and supports to improve his ankle movement in the recovery period.

After assessment by a foot care Practitioner the man was custom fitted with medical grade boots designed to incorporate a calliper. The soles were built up to stop his now weakened ankle rolling outwards as he walked.

The aim was to achieve skeletal alignment in the presence of a weakened joint, and support the joint whilst enabling fluid movement when walking after injury.

The result – a successful multidisciplinary solution to the problem of an injured ankle and importantly the man was helped and not disabled by his injury.

Your foot care practitioner– make him part of your health team.
